I recently found out about the fade function for PB and wanted to use it on a old project.
Of course I immediately ran into problems when the movie clapper icon does not appear on my screen.
I am running in Client mode.
Any suggestions?
Cheers.

What version are you currently running? Is that running in AP mode? In AP mode the Pixelblaze won’t be connected to the internet, and so can’t download the update itself.
You can also download update files from a release post and upload these to the /recovery URL (just add that to the end of the IP address). That works even in AP mode.
I have no idea what version I am running. Or what a version even is. Sorry.
I am running in Client Mode.
I don’t know what an update post is or what it would be updating.
I don’t know what a release post is. I don’t know what a /recovery URL is.
My ignorance is boundless because I’m not a programmer. If there is a page of knowledge that explains all this I will read it and try and get smarter.
I am not being snarky at all. I am just lost in a sea of jargon.
Cheers.
No worries!
The docs here go over the user interface, and show where you can find the version:
https://electromage.com/docs/user-interface
In client mode you should see update buttons in your settings page, but you don’t for some reason, so we’ll try a different method, but knowing the version will help with the next step.
Thanks.
I appear to be at the crux of failure again. I had an earlier post about my newfound inability to get PB to connect in client mode. This disease (which started when I tried setting up a PB from Jason (Evil)) has now spread to my old PB. I cannot connect to the old PB in Client Mode.
In any case in AP mode there is no Update Button. So I am screwed. This software stuff brings me to the point of wanting to smash everything and go back to watching an old fashioned wood fire. No versions, no updates, just fun dancing flames.
Nothing here your fault I am just venting.
And now for the grand climax, the PB is now officially dead to the world. The 5 second button press does nothing, the orange light has gone dark and I have a lone blue LED to mourn the loss of a nice piece of equipment.
Thats frustrating!
Hopefully its salvagable. Sounds like maybe some wiring came loose or your power supply is quitting on you. If you get to a point where you don’t want to just toss it out a window, I can help troubleshoot.
Thanks for the help. It’s been a day.
As I beleive that the problems I am having with my PB are due to me recent inability to connect in client mode I have a piece of data that I do not understand but that someone else might.
I ran the Apple Network diagnostics on my computer and got the following results.
All of WiFi entries (except Twinkly) that are labeled as CN are PixelBlaze units. I am assuming CN means Canada. It seems suggestive to me that this might be the reason why I cannot connect in Client Mode but I have not idea how to correct this.
Incipiently I have done a soft reset on my Air Port Extreme twice to see if this helped. It did not.
Cheers.
I’d never heard of wi-fi country codes, but it looks like CN is the callsign for China: Wifi country code | Recalbox Wiki
I guess that’s since ESP32’s are made in China?
Interesting, found this in the espressif idf docs: Wi-Fi - ESP32 - — ESP-IDF Programming Guide v5.4 documentation
