Output Expander Troubleshooting, 1 of 2 units shows no signal (flashing amber).

Fairly new to the Pixelblaze world, just utilized some for a pair of Halloween costumes that stole the show! I had 2x V3s with Sensor Boards driving some short lengths of WS2812, 200 Pixels per at very low brightness. I had hoped to split these up using Output Expanders (one connected to each V3), but I had a weird issue with one of the devices.

One of the (brand new) Output Expanders would not work, and just showed a slow pulsing orange or yellow LED, which I understand to mean it’s not getting a valid signal from the Pixelblaze.

I tried changing the connections, trying the board with the other Pixelblaze, changing addresses (even though I hadn’t cut any traces), nothing seemed to work. The one Expander simply would not work.

None of the resistors appear damaged, all read 100Ω or 4.7kΩ.

Are there any other diagnostics or troubleshooting I can attempt?

Just double checking connections, solder joints, etc. those are the most common. If you’ve tried all the board addresses, tried with the other PB that works with an expander, and it’s never getting anything then the expander might have failed. Let me know and I’ll get you a replacement.

Attached are images of the two of them side by side, green post-it is the non-functioning one. (note: side-lit by my up-close work lamp makes them look grimier and more mucky than they are, just a bit of residue from the flux, but cleaned with IPA).

Checked all the continuity I can, tried with the new 3.66 FW, nothing doing I’m afraid.

Thanks for the help! I’ll reach out via email about a replacement.

Yeah, don’t see anything obvious, everything looks good from the photos. It’s possible something zapped the input GPIO maybe? I’ll get you a replacement.
